Uno studio in Holmes
The society has been founded in 1987 in Florence (the only
Italian city surely visited by the Master), but our fellows live in all parts of the
country. The society is a Scion Society of Baker Street Irregulars of New York and has
been honoured by the Three Continents Award of the Franco Midland Hardware
Company. We have a strong collaboration with the Pipe Club of Italy.
We have an annual meeting, as a rule with a great interest
by the newspapers, tv's and radios. In 1996 the meeting lasted 3 days, with a violin concert,
films, conferences and an exibition of old pipes: we have a video of that event. In 1997 we had a
theatrical manifestation in Lucca, in 1999 the meeting in Rome was held at the end of a show that
stayed on for a month and was visited by 25.000 people. In 2000 we had a great meeting named
"A week later" in Milan and Florence on
the great journey of Holmes in Italy in 1891. In year 2002 the annual meeeting was held in
Sesto fiorentino about The Hound of the Baskervilles (on the first centenary of the first Italian
edition of HOUN) with the unveiling of a bust of Holmes offered by the Sesto Fiorentino City Council.
In 2004 another international meeting in Naples, about the Red Circle, with the pose of a plate remembering
the holidays of Arthur Conan Doyle in Naples. In 2005 the meeting was in Milan, on the subject "ACD and Italy"
and in October 2006 in Gubbio about "Sherlock Holmes: lights and shadows of a myth".
In November 2007 the Society celebrated her twenty years of Holmesian activity with a great international
meeting in Florence, with fellow Sherlockians from UK, Japan, France, USA and Switzerland.
Many of us published books about Sherlock Holmes. Apocriphal stories (Enrico Solito: "Uno Studio in Holmes" 1995, "I casi proibiti di Sherlock Holmes" 1998, "I casi segreti di Sherlock Holmes"; Sergio Kreisky: "Il caso del finanziere italiano" 1995; Ivo Lombardo "SH in Venezia"), studies (Alessandra Calanchi: "4 studi in rosso" 1997; Marco Zatterin: "S.H.; indagine su un mito centenario" 1987, "I viaggi di Sherlock Holmes" 1994) and an Encyclopedia, "I 17 scalini" (Stefano Guerra & Enrico Solito, 1998).
The past presidents of the society are Carlo Eugenio Casini, Stefano Guerra, Francesco Leprai, Enrico Solito (BSI), Gianluca Salvatori (BSI), Gabriele Mazzoni and Carmen Savino. The current President is Carlo Eugenio Casini.
